Abu Dhabi – The United Arab Emirates is in mourning following the death of Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Abu Dhabi and brother of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Funeral prayers were led by President Sheikh Mohamed at Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed the First Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Worshippers gathered to pray for peace and mercy for the departed, seeking divine rewards for a life dedicated to serving the nation and its people. Sheikh Saeed’s final resting place is at Al Bateen Cemetery, where he was laid to rest.
The news of Sheikh Saeed’s passing was announced by the state news agency Wam in the early hours of Thursday morning. He had been dealing with a health issue, as previously reported by the Presidential Court.
President Sheikh Mohamed took to Twitter to express his grief, writing, “With the passing of my brother Saeed bin Zayed, the UAE has lost a loyal son who was dedicated to his country and its people. We pray that God grants him eternal rest, and that we are blessed with patience and solace at this time.” In honor of the late Sheikh Saeed, President Sheikh Mohamed has declared three days of mourning.
The UAE will hold funeral prayers at all mosques across the country after noon prayers. Condolences will be received at Al Mushrif Palace in Abu Dhabi on Thursday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm, and on Friday and Saturday, from 10 am to noon and from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
The UAE leaders, as well as leaders from the region, have conveyed their deepest sympathies. Bahrain’s Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defense Affairs, traveled to the Emirates to pay tribute. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman offered his condolences in a phone call with the UAE President.
Sheikh Saeed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was a key figure in UAE life, serving in various important positions in the emirate. As the son of the UAE Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Saeed played a significant role in advancing the nation’s development. He showed a keen interest in sports, especially football, and made substantial contributions to the UAE’s successful hosting of the 2003 FIFA Youth World Cup.
